Let’s Make 2017 a Year of Transformation

My prayer for you: 2017 will be a year of transformation.

2017, transformation, God Word, world, renew, change

A year where you advance past belief systems that held you back.

With God’s grace, let’s do this!

Why? How? Are you sure? Yes!

  • God’s grace is with us: So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness. (Hebrews 4:16 TPT)
  • Our new nature: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV)
  • Our standing of victory: If God has determined to stand with us, tell me, who then could ever stand against us? (Romans 8:31 TPT)

Where do I start? The Word:

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.  (Romans 12:2 TPT)

This past year, I realized the impact the world had on my personal view. It was so subtle that I hadn’t understood its influence until now. Once I took stock of where I gave my attention, I realized it was too much of the world.

Here are some lies I had believed.

  • Physical appearance: If I looked like this, I’ll be valued.
  • Wealth: If I have enough money, I’ll be content.
  • Professional Success: If I write a NYT Best Seller and get a movie contract, I’ll get respect.

These are all lies! Nothing will fulfill me but him. Nothing can provide eternal value but him.

God opened my eyes to realize some of my pursuits weren’t based on my identity, but on the world’s values. When I didn’t feel respected, loved, or appreciated, it was based on the world’s criteria, not God’s.

Now, I’m experiencing a breakdown process where I’m identifying lies in my thinking then replacing them with truth from God’s word. What is he saying in the Scriptures and what is he saying to me personally?

I need hear God’s word more than the news reports, social media feeds, and cultural events. I’m not banning those sources, but investing more time in the Word.

This includes when thoughts bombard my mind. Taking those thoughts captive immediately.

About a month ago, I was at the bank discussing a particular transaction with the bank rep. He was kind, but barely gave me eye contact. He was so matter of fact that he didn’t hardly respond to any friendly exchange. He was impersonal and cold. I left feeling, what’s wrong with me?

As I headed home, I had this conversation in my head:

Worldview: If you looked prettier, he would’ve given you eye contact and attention.

Me: Yeah…you’re right. If only I looked like Kate Upton.

Worldview: See, you’re not enough.

After at least five minutes of feeling devalued, I had to stop and consider what I’m thinking:

Me: Wait. Why is this about me? Perhaps he’s having a tough day. Even if he’s having a great day, why does his view of me affect how I see myself? Truth says: I’m accepted in the Beloved. I’m fearfully and wonderfully made.

So, instead of my interaction with the bank rep ruining my day, I moved on.

What I appreciate about God’s values are: they’re not based on what we do, or how we look, or what we have to offer, but who we are.

For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV)

So, I am challenging myself to feed my mind with what God’s saying about me. Through the Scripture, personal chat sessions, and prophetic words from others.

I want to be all who God made me to be. I no longer want to see a distorted image of me, influenced by lies and worldly values, but I want to see Christ!

This year, let’s feed our minds with what he says about us. If we invest our thoughts in his Word and his personal words to us, watch out, 2017! We’re conquering our mountains and seeing transformation in our lives and those around us!

How about you? What do you want to see transformed for 2017? Please share in comments below. Thank you.
